the Wallack family

'There is no name more intimately or more proudly connected with the American stage than that of Wallack.'

Wallack's Old Theatre

The Wallacks were a prominent theatrical family in Britain and the United States in the 19th century. However, I have been unable to find the family link of Walter 'Watty' Hope Wallack, who was well-known as an entertainer in the West Indies and the Southern states, to the main-stream of the Wallack family - in fact I have found nothing about his parents at all, though he claimed to have been born in Liverpool in England, apparently about 1830.

Some information on the Wallack family may be found by searching the volume below:

This site gives a brief view of the visits to Jamaica by Watty Wallack and his company from 1867 to 1893. The Wallack troupe made themselves very popular in the island.
